Many people will struggle to make peace with what I’m about to say, but it needs to be said.
Recently, during a spiritual counseling session with a new client, I was reminded why there must be a clear distinction between spiritual care, trauma-informed care, and trauma-informed spiritual care. This isn’t about semantics — it’s about safety.
In that session, the client admitted to being somewhat avoidant of the kind of intimate confrontation that often takes place in discipleship or faith-integrated counseling. She explained that, in some forms of spiritual care, she had actually felt unsafe. Her exact words were:
“I felt a challenge of — she’s right, but I’m feeling an emotional attack.”
The reason she felt that way is hers to own, honor, navigate, and eventually overcome. But I couldn’t help reflecting on the fact that she is far from the only person with this experience.
I could almost hear the common rebuttals (rebukes, even) that would come from well-meaning (and sometimes not-so-well-meaning) people:
“It’s not an attack, it’s just the truth.”
“If you don’t want the truth, then why ask?”
“The truth hurts, but I wouldn’t love you if I didn’t share it.”
And a host of other responses that prioritize intent over impact.
Ministers, caregivers, and even therapists (in this case) can unintentionally lose their ability to influence when they lack the appropriate strategy.

She may be one of the few who know how to describe the experience or who will still show up to confront the discomfort, but she is not the only one in this experience.
This is why Trauma-Informed Spiritual Intervention® exists, not as a mini-course, not as a brief webinar, nor a social media series. This is real work, with real implications and real-time evidence of impact and relevance.
Watch the 2-minute reel to learn the difference between spiritual care, trauma-informed care, and trauma-informed spiritual care and ask yourself,
"Did I know this already? Do I need more training?"
If these are your goals, this is your chance:
• You want to confidently integrate faith and practice
• You want to build a safe, trauma-informed foundation
• You want practical tools for offering spiritual care and working with various beliefs
• You want to speak about God and healing with respect and
clarity
A program like this is rare because we understand that spiritual care is far more than the doctrine you teach or believe.
You’re not ashamed of the Gospel. You just need an objective and professional framework that helps you bring Christ’s power in the space.
